Colorback
Colorback Project – Carlin Style Gold
The Colorback Project is a highly prospective Carlin-style gold asset located approximately 10 km southwest of Crescent Valley in central Nevada. The project is easily accessed via paved State Route 306, approximately 40 km south of Interstate 80, with the major regional centre of Elko located 90 km to the northeast. Its proximity to major operating mines ensures access to well-established infrastructure, including roads, power and mining services.
Colorback is strategically positioned within the prolific Battle Mountain Trend, one of the world’s most endowed gold provinces, hosting over 100 million ounces of gold in past production and reserves. Major deposits within 25 km of the project include the Pipeline Gold Mine (~20 Moz Au), the Cortez Complex (~15 Moz Au), and the Goldrush Deposit and Fourmile Deposit (combined >15 Moz Au and growing). This location places Colorback in the core of a Tier-1 gold district with demonstrated capacity to host world-class deposits.
The project comprises 42 contiguous 20-acre claims covering approximately 3.4 km² and is prospective for structurally controlled, sediment-hosted Carlin-style gold mineralisation. Sierra Nevada Gold has identified a number of key geological and structural features consistent with major Carlin systems, including the intersection of northwest- and northeast-trending structures associated with elevated gold and pathfinder elements such as arsenic, boron and mercury.
Exploration data indicates the presence of large-scale, fertile structures capable of controlling significant gold mineralisation. These structures are interpreted to intersect favourable Lower Plate carbonate host rocks at depth—considered the primary target horizon for large Carlin-style deposits. Supporting evidence includes a gravity-defined embayment suggestive of deeper stratigraphic windows, as well as the intersection of decalcified zones in historical deep drilling, including 4.57 m at 0.64 g/t Au from 666 m in hole VIT 06-01.
Additional indicators of a fertile system include ground magnetic data suggesting a potential intrusive centre at depth, possibly related to structural uplift along the Roberts Mountain Thrust, and the intersection of carbonaceous units interpreted to represent the lower portions of the Upper Plate sequence. These features collectively suggest close proximity to the highly prospective Lower Plate stratigraphy.
High-grade surface sampling further supports the project’s potential, with rock chip results returning up to 18.15 g/t Au from fault-controlled mineralisation proximal to the Tenabo intrusion, highlighting potential for Gold Acres-style mineralisation within the project area.
Recent drilling by Sierra Nevada Gold has confirmed the presence of near-surface oxide gold mineralisation. Reverse circulation drilling returned encouraging results, including 29.26 m at 1.30 g/t Au, including 7.32 m at 3.61 g/t Au from shallow depths. These results validate historical data and demonstrate the presence of a mineralised system with both near-surface and deeper exploration potential.
With strong geological analogues, proximity to world-class deposits, and clear vectors toward a significant Carlin-style system at depth, the Colorback Project represents a compelling exploration opportunity within one of Nevada’s most productive gold belts.
